CONTEST
OFFICIAL RULES
1. SPONSORS:

2. CONTEST DATES:
The contest begins at 12:00:01 a.m. PT on January 30, 2012 and ends at 11:59:59 p.m. PT on March 31, 2011. Any entries submitted after 11:59:59 p.m. PT on March 30, 2012 will be disqualified. The Sponsor’s clock shall be the official timekeeper.
3. HOW TO ENTER:
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.
a.Beginning at 12:00:01 a.m. PT on January 30, 2012, go to www.ktla.com/chambers and follow the instructions to complete the entry form. You must provide all information requested on the entry form, including:
• your name
• your address
• your telephone number
• your valid e-mail address
• your teacher's name
• the month and year you will be graduating high school
• the full name of your high school
• your high school’s address
• your high school's school’s phone number
• an essay addressing the topic "Issues facing Today’s Teens"
All of the above items listed as required elements for entry shall be referred to as the "Entry Materials".
The essay portion of your entry may not exceed 150 words. The essay must be your own original composition and should be based on your experiences, your thoughts and your opinions about life. There will be only one entry per person, e-mail address allowed. You must have a valid e-mail account in order for your entry to be eligible. Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify those entries that may subject Sponsors to a claim or litigation. Entries will be accepted until 11:59:59 p.m. PT on March 30, 2012. Any entries submitted after 11:59:59 p.m. PT on March 30, 2012 will be disqualified.
By entering, you represent that the Entry Materials, including without limitation, the essay; (i) consists of your original writing produced for the Contest; (ii) do not/will not violate or infringe any intellectual property rights, including but not limited to copyright, trademark/trade name, or contract rights, or any other proprietary rights of any person or entity; (iii) do not contain obscene, profane or pornographic material, do not contain defamatory or libelous statements (including without limitation words that are considered offensive to individuals of a certain race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or socioeconomic group), do not invade the privacy or any other rights of any person, firm, or entity; and (iv) in no other way violate any applicable laws, regulations, or television broadcast network standards as determined by Sponsors in their sole discretion. Entry Materials that do not comply with these Rules shall be disqualified. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify those entries that contain offensive or inappropriate material, which are deemed by the Sponsor to be unsuitable, or which Sponsor believes would subject them to a claim or litigation. Entrants agree to indemnify, defend and hold Sponsor harmless against any and all liabilities, losses, damages, claims, debts, investigations, fines, penalties, costs, expenses and settlements (including attorneys' fees and costs of litigation, settlement, judgment, interest and penalties) arising out of or related to a breach of the foregoing representations and warranties.
b.Incomplete or late entries will be disqualified and Sponsors are not responsible for online entries that are lost, late, incomplete, garbled, deleted, or misdirected as a result of technical, internet, server, or other online difficulties. In the event of a dispute regarding the identity of an entrant, the holder of the e-mail account will be deemed the person who submitted the entry. Limit one entry per person, e-mail address or household. Subsequent entries from the same email address will be deleted. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified. All entry information (excluding the intellectual property rights embodied in the submitted essay) becomes the property of Sponsor and will not be returned or its receipt acknowledged.
4. ELIGIBILITY:
This Contest is void where prohibited by law. This Contest is open only to legal residents of California within the KTLA viewing area, who are considered by their respective educational institution (the "School") to be high school seniors during the 2011-2012 school year and will be graduating or have graduated from their School between January 1, 2012 and August 31, 2012.
Employees (and their immediate household or family members) of media companies that are within the KTLA viewing area, Sponsors and its parent corporation, subsidiaries, or affiliates, and such employees' immediate family or household members are not eligible to enter or win the contest.
5. PRIZE AND WINNER SELECTION:
a.On or about April 2, 2012, all eligible entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges composed of certain staff and/or persons designated by staff of the Sponsors listed above in Section 1. The judges will select five (5) winners based on the following criteria:
• 35% originality of essay
• 35% creativity of essay
• 30% writing skill
b.Each winner will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship to a college, university, community college, trade school or other post-secondary educational instituion of winners’ choosing. Winners’ chosen educational insitutions must be recognized as accredited institutions by the United States Department of Education (USDOE). Prize money will be paid directly to the educational institutions and not to the winners. If a winner chooses an educational institution that is not recognized as accredited by the USDOE, sponsors reserve the right to choose, in their discretion, whether or not to award the scholarship to that winner.
Winners must also meet any requirements set by Stater Bros. Charities for the awarding of scholarships.
Sponsors also reserve the right, but are not required, to provide additional products and/or services as part of the prize package at their discretion.
The winner is responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes associated with the prize, as well as all other costs or expenses associated with the prize. The winner shall be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility/Publicity Release. A winner’s parent and/or legal guardian will also be required to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility on behalf of a winner under the age of 18. Failure to execute such documents may result in disqualification.
Prizes are not transferable and prize substitution will not be allowed, except at the sole discretion of Sponsors. Sponsors reserve the right, but are not required, to substitute a prize of equal or greater value for the prize in the event the prize listed herein is canceled, postponed or unavailable for any reason.
6. GENERAL CONDITIONS:
a.If for any reason, this Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, tampering, fraud, technical failure, or any other cause which corrupts or threatens the administration, security or integrity of the contest, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate, modify, or suspend the contest or any portion of the contest. ANY ATTEMPT TO DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE FAIR AND LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS CONTEST WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE CONTEST. Information submitted in Internet entries, including entrant's name, address, e-mail address, etc., may be used by KTLA-TV for marketing or promotional purposes.
b.Sponsors reserve the right to delay contest announcements, postpone or reschedule all or some of the contest events, and/or modify Contest deadlines at its sole discretion. Any such changes will be announced and posted on the Contest website.
c.By entering, entrants grant to KTLA an unlimited, non-exclusive, royalty-free right and license to publish entry submissions (including entrant’s essay) in any medium now known or hereafter invented, in perpetuity. Entrants and Winners otherwise will retain all rights to their essays, and the publication of their essays as part of this Contest will not limit their use and ability to further market the essay. KTLA reserves the right (but is not obligated) to post entry submissions and essays online at www.ktla.com or broadcast the photo on KTLA.
d. Neither the failure of Sponsors to insist upon or enforce strict performance of any provision of these Official Rules nor the failure, delay or omission by Sponsors in exercising any right with respect to any term of these Official Rules, will be construed as a waiver or relinquishment to any extent of each Sponsor's or right to assert or rely upon any such provision or right in that or any other instance.
e. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of entrants and Sponsors in connection with these Sweepstakes shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions.
f.By participating in this Contest, entrants (i) agree to have their names, photographs, voices, biographical information, likenesses, and entry submissions (including photographs and videos) used in any and all media for promotional purposes relating to this contest or future similar contests without further compensation or notice, except as prohibited by law; (ii) grant and agree to grant to Sponsors an unlimited, non-exclusive, fully-paid royalty-free right and license (but not obligation) to publish, exhibit, distribute and/or otherwise make available the essay provided by entrant, in any medium now known or hereafter invented, in perpetuity, and (ii) agree to be bound by these rules and the decisions of the judges and to release Sponsors, their parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, claims , losses, or damages of any kind caused by any prize or resulting from their participation in this contest and their acceptance and use of any prizes won.
g.All entries become the property of KTLA, and KTLA shall retain all rights in the video segment produced by the award winners. None of the essays, nor the master tapes of the video segment, shall be returned. The award will be forfeited and awarded to another entrant if the selected winner is not eligible in accordance with the rules.
h.This Contest is subject to the KTLA.COM Terms of Service (www.ktla.com/termsofservice) and the KTLA.COM privacy policy (www.ktla.com/privacypolicy and shall be governed, construed and enforced in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to the choice of law provisions thereof.
7. OFFICIAL RULES AND WINNERS LIST: For a copy of the Official Rules or the name of the winner, send a self-addressed envelope to “Stan Chamber Journalism Awards 2012”, Attn: Creative Services, KTLA-TV, 5800 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90028, by September 1, 2011. A list of these names will be available after the winner has been verified and the prize has been awarded.
